Most attics hold a few boxes and a dusty trunk. This one apparently held a skate party. A real estate agent at @seesamsellhomes takes viewers up into the attic of an Iowa farmhouse, and the size alone is the story.

The caption invites viewers to check out the farmhouse attic with the creator and notes that a couple of pieces of original furniture are still stored up there. In the video, the creator says they did not know there was a massive attic. The home just had new windows put in. The attic is described as 1,500 square feet, which the creator attributes to what they were told, and the story goes that the family used to store all of the original furniture up there and even used to hold skate parties. The creator also points out a huge, beautiful, double wide switchback staircase.
That is the extent of the details in the clip. It does not say where in Iowa the house is, how old it is or whether the home is for sale, so we will leave those questions open.
Why Old Attics Are Worth a Look
Older homes, especially farmhouses, were often built with large attic spaces for storage, and families sometimes kept furniture, trunks and keepsakes up there for decades. That is why original pieces occasionally turn up in them. A big, open floor under the roof can also be a surprisingly handy place for play, which fits the skate party story.
If You Are Exploring an Old House Attic
- Bring a good flashlight and wear sturdy shoes. Attic floors can have gaps, loose boards or nails.
- Step on the joists or solid flooring, and test boards before you put your weight on them.
- Wear a mask and gloves if the space is dusty, and watch out for droppings, nests or signs of pests.
- Look up at the roof boards and around windows for water stains, which can point to leaks.
- Check the ventilation. Good airflow helps protect both the roof and anything stored up there.
- Handle old furniture gently, and take photos before moving anything so you remember how it was found.
- If you are buying a house, ask the inspector to take a good look at the attic space, wiring and insulation.
A big, open attic with a grand staircase leading to it is the kind of feature people remember, and a nice reminder that old houses can hide a lot of history above the ceiling.
