Most shoppers figure that once they have been through an estate sale, the good stuff is gone. Jeremy and Chrissy of @VintageLushMCM decided to test that idea. They went back to an estate sale they had already shopped, and according to their video, they still found more vintage treasures to resell.

The day was a busy one. The pair visited three estate sales and one garage sale, searching for antiques, primitive decor and vintage collectibles that they can sell on eBay and in their vintage market booths. Their first stop, as they put it, was a familiar one.
Why a Second Trip Can Pay Off
Going back to a sale you have already shopped sounds like wasted gas, but it works for a reason. On a first visit, a crowd of shoppers is rushing, and it is easy to walk right past things. A second look gives you time to slow down and notice what you missed. Shoppers who come back later can also see what is still sitting there after the first rush.
The pair’s day shows it in action. They also made a point of saying that some of what they found was staying with them. As one of them put it, “No, we’re going to keep them.” Every reseller knows that feeling. Sometimes a piece is too good to part with, and that is perfectly fine. A booth full of items you love to look at keeps the work enjoyable, and it keeps your eye sharp for the next good find. Patience matters too. The best sale days are rarely about one big score. They are about a steady string of small wins.
A Ten Dollar Mystery
Not every purchase is a sure thing. At one stop, the pair bought a little plant for $10 and admitted they did not even know what kind it was. That is part of the fun of the hunt. Sometimes you buy something just because it caught your eye and the price was low enough to take the chance.
What Primitive Decor Means
If you are not familiar with the term, “primitive” decor generally refers to rustic, old-fashioned household items with a handmade or farmhouse feel. Think of wooden bowls, old crocks, simple wood boxes and worn painted pieces. Many shoppers love the look because it feels warm and homey, and it fits well in a country kitchen or a cozy living room.
How to Shop an Estate Sale Like a Pro
Whether you want to resell or just furnish your home for less, a few habits will help you.
- Go back on the last day. As the sale winds down, there is often more room to look closely, and some sales cut prices near the end. Ask politely whether the organizers are willing to negotiate.
- Look in the corners. Boxes under tables, items in garages and things stored in closets are easy to miss on the first pass.
- Check for damage. Look at the bottoms, backs and insides of pieces for cracks, repairs and missing parts.
- Bundle your buys. If you are buying several items from the same sale, ask for a bundle price.
- Set a limit. A $10 mystery plant is fine. A pile of mystery plants is not. Decide on your budget before you walk in.
- Be kind to the organizers. They are often working through a family’s belongings. Friendly shoppers get better deals and better tips on what is coming next.
Reading an Estate Sale Listing
Most estate sales are announced online a few days ahead, usually with photos and a list of what is inside. Read the description closely. Words like antiques, tools, vintage decor or kitchenware tell you what to expect, and the photos often show far more than the text. Note the dates and hours, and look for details about when doors open and whether the organizers hand out numbers for a line. If a sale has a second or third day, put it on your calendar. As this pair showed, a return visit can be just as rewarding as the first.
Know What to Keep and What to Sell
One lesson in this video is that resellers are collectors too. If you are cleaning out a home, the same decision applies to you. Before you price or donate, set aside the pieces that have meaning for your family, whether it is a cast iron pan or a handmade quilt. Then look up the rest. A simple search for the item and the word sold will often show what buyers are really paying, not just what sellers hope to get.
If you are shopping, the same rule keeps your house from filling up. Buy what you love or what you can resell, and leave the rest.
