Student With 90% Marks Gets Isolated, Denied Phone Access, Blocked From College Admission, And Told To Build A Future From Inside The House

A student in India has taken a dramatic stand against her family’s oppressive control over her education. At just 18 years old, she finds herself trapped at home, denied basic freedoms that would allow her to pursue college admission despite achieving a commendable 90% in her Class 12 exams.

Last year, she dropped out to focus on her future, hoping this year would see her gain entry to a college. However, her family remains unsupportive and controlling, leaving her isolated from the outside world. “They don’t allow me to meet anyone or even go outside the house,” she shared. “They keep saying, ‘Whatever you want to achieve, do it from home.’”

Initially determined to study and prepare for the Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams, the atmosphere at home soon deteriorated. Her mother, who had previously encouraged her studies, began to impose strict limitations. She took away her phone and forbade her from having any communication with friends. “I can’t even talk to someone to refresh my mind or reduce stress,” the student lamented.

Conditions worsened as the emotional and verbal abuse escalated. The student described her mother’s degrading language, saying it has made it nearly impossible for her to focus on her studies. “Whenever I study peacefully for two days, the same traumatic cycle starts all over again the next day,” she explained, painting a heart-wrenching picture of her daily struggles. She feels trapped and alone, with no avenue for support.

This isolation extends beyond just studying at home. She has been denied access to even simple freedoms such as going to the terrace, a place she would use to catch a breath of fresh air. “Sometimes, if I simply go to the terrace, my mother starts shouting at me,” she recounted, illustrating the suffocating atmosphere surrounding her.

Despite the overwhelming environment, she has remained committed to her education and goals. Her achievements in academics reflect her resilience. According to her account, the long hours of studying have paid off, yet her family’s refusal to acknowledge her success continues to stifle her ambitions. They are currently blocking her admission to a prestigious college that accepted her on merit.

The student’s struggle resonates with many young individuals who face similar forms of familial control and abuse. “All I have ever wanted is encouragement, emotional support, and the freedom to study and build a better life,” she said, expressing her longing for a nurturing environment that fosters growth rather than oppression.
