A car lot owner in Michigan is facing a surge of online harassment after a TikTok video depicting a dispute over payment was posted by a detailer’s employee. The video, which shows a cropped version of the altercation, has prompted death threats against the owner’s family.

The trouble began when an employee of the detailing company, which rents space from the car business, cleaned her personal vehicle on the premises. This action violated the agreement between the car lot owner and the detail owner, who had set a fixed price for detailing services performed on the lot’s vehicles. In response to the employee’s actions, the car lot owner informed her that she needed to cease work on personal cars until he discussed the situation with the detail owner.
When the owner confronted her, tensions escalated. The employee began recording the interaction, claiming she was working on a customer car and would move it once finished. The situation attracted the attention of the owner’s mother, who ultimately told the employee she was no longer permitted on the property.
After the confrontation, the detailer’s employee posted her video on TikTok. However, she cropped the footage to present the situation as if the car lot owner was yelling at her without context. Accompanying the edited video, she shared a narrative of being mistreated and not compensated for her work, a claim that misrepresented the reality of the arrangement with the detailer.
This misleading portrayal led to significant backlash against the family-owned car lot. The business was bombarded with negative reviews, and phone calls flooded in with threats. According to the owner’s daughter, who shared their experience online, her mother received messages that implied violent intentions against her and her siblings.
“People are calling and saying they’re going to come kill us and worse,” the daughter explained in a Reddit post detailing the alarming situation. Despite reaching out to the detailer’s employee, her requests to remove the video have been met with resistance. The employee has repeatedly refused to delete or even make the content private, only to later switch her account back to public.
The daughter’s attempts to clarify the misunderstanding on the same platform were met with hostility, leading to her being blocked by the detailer’s employee. As she navigates this unexpected wave of negativity, she expressed genuine fear for her family’s safety and the damaging implications for their business.
One person commented on her post, “This is insane! She should be held accountable for the fallout of her actions.” Another reader said, “I can’t believe people would go so far over a TikTok video. This needs to be fixed.” The comments reflect a mix of sympathy and outrage toward the circumstances that unfolded from a single post.
The family is now left grappling with the consequences of a platform that can amplify misinformation and escalate disputes rapidly. They face an uphill battle to protect their family’s reputation and their business from a narrative spun out of context.
As the daughter considers her next steps, she remains torn about reporting the incident to authorities, aware that doing so might lead to further complications. “I just want the video taken down,” she said, voicing her frustration in an uncertain world of social media.
