Disney Is Quietly Reopening the Exact Mall Store Every 90s Kid Once Begged Their Parents to Visit, and a Second Location Just Opened Its Doors

Disney just opened the doors on the second location of “Disney Store Limited Time,” a mall-anchor pop-up concept reviving the standalone Disney Store experience that largely disappeared from American malls after 2021. The new store landed at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey, following the format’s debut in Pittsburgh back in May.

  • The Paramus store opened September 3 with a 4 p.m. grand opening, replacing a former PINK storefront on the mall’s Level 1
  • It’s roughly 2,300 square feet and is expected to stay open through the 2026 holiday season, per Patch’s reporting on the Paramus location
  • The first Disney Store Limited Time opened at Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh in May 2026
  • The pop-ups are run in partnership with Go! Retail Group and stock apparel, plush, pins, and home goods pulled from DisneyStore.com, plus location-exclusive merchandise

For anyone who grew up making a beeline for the Disney Store the second the mall doors opened, this is the retail equivalent of finding out your childhood arcade is getting one more summer. The original mall-based Disney Store chain, which at its peak numbered in the hundreds across North America, spent years quietly shrinking as the company leaned harder into DisneyStore.com and shop-in-shop deals with retailers like Target. By early 2026, the last of the old-style standalone stores had shuttered entirely.

What’s opening now isn’t a return to that permanent footprint, at least not yet. These are explicitly framed as limited-run pop-ups, complete with themed zones for princesses, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars, and the Paramus location is even selling a New Jersey-exclusive tee and tote, a nod to the old-school regional-exclusive merch drops longtime collectors remember fondly.

Two stores in one year is a modest footprint for a company that once operated Disney Stores in nearly every major American mall, but it reads like a real test of whether physical, in-person shopping still has pull with a generation that grew up watching those stores empty out. Judging by the crowds documented at both openings, the appetite for a real mall Disney Store, one you can walk into, touch the merchandise, and wait in line at the register, never actually went away. It just went looking for a store that wasn’t there anymore.

Whether Disney turns this into a wider rollout or leaves it as a two-city experiment remains to be seen, but for now, Paramus shoppers get to relive a specific strain of childhood muscle memory: dragging a parent past the food court because the Disney Store sign lit up.
