G.I. Joe Toy Water Test Sinks Almost Everything Except The Good Old APC, Which Keeps Floating And Outlasts The Rest While Cobra Rests At The Bottom

Every kid who grew up with G.I. Joe toys has probably wondered what would happen if the whole squad went for a swim. @cobra_escadrille put the vehicles in water to find out, and one of them came out the clear winner.

Plastic toy soldiers

The narration is short. Everything is taken out onto the water and sinks, except for the good old APC. The creator says the APC is still floating and that it outlasted everything. Meanwhile, the Cobra toys are down on the bottom.

The audio is brief and partly unclear, and the post does not list which vehicles were tested or what material they were made of, so we will not guess at the details. What we can say is that the APC, the armored personnel carrier, is the one that stayed afloat in this playful test.

Why the Toy Aisle Still Has Fans

G.I. Joe and Cobra were a big part of many childhoods, with heroes and villains, vehicles and playsets, and plenty of backyard battles. It is easy to see why a silly test like this one gets attention. A floating APC is just the kind of detail kids might have argued about on the playground.

A Word of Caution for Collectors

Before you try this at home with a prized vehicle, keep in mind that water is not a friend to vintage toys. Many collectors advise against it for these reasons:

  • Water can get trapped inside hollow plastic and lead to mildew or odors.
  • Metal screws, springs and pins can rust.
  • Stickers and decals may peel or lift, and paint can be affected.
  • Electronics or battery compartments, if a toy has them, can be damaged.

If a vehicle needs cleaning, a soft cloth that is barely damp, followed by a dry one, is the usual gentle approach. Display pieces away from direct sun and heat so the plastic stays in good shape. And if you do want to test a toy, a duplicate or play-worn one is the safer choice than your best piece.

It may not be scientific, but it is a fun reminder that the old toys still have the power to make us grin.
