Wartime uranium restrictions shut production down almost entirely, and it didn’t resume until 1959, when manufacturers switched to depleted uranium instead of the natural version. Because these are often 80- to 90-year-old glass formulations, most collectors hand-wash rather than risk a dishwasher’s thermal swings, and avoid sudden temperature changes that can stress old batch glass. Values vary wildly by form and color — a common tumbler might run twenty dollars, while a documented McKee or Jeannette mixing bowl in excellent condition can climb well past that — but the appeal has never really been about investment. It’s about owning a physical object that quietly proves the mid-century kitchen was stranger, and more chemically adventurous, than nostalgia usually lets on.
